Thief pretends to be a mannequin to steal jewelry from a store

Polish police detained a 22-year-old man on Thursday 19th. He posed as a store mannequin to commit several thefts. The crimes took place in a shopping center in Warsaw.

A Polish police spokesperson released the information, according to a report by the France Presse news agency (AFP).

AFP said that, when breaking into a clothing store, after the establishment closed, the man wore new clothes. So he stood in a window to pose as a mannequin.

As Robert Szumiata, spokesman for the Warsaw police, told AFP, the criminal’s objective was to escape security guards and security cameras.

The man had time to steal jewelry in a booth installed in a gallery, until he was caught and arrested. The situation left the police surprised.

“We had never seen anything like this,” admitted Szumiata.

Up to ten years in prison

The sentence for the man, provisionally detained, could be up to ten years in prison.

The incident also caused astonishment due to the fact that, according to the magazine ForbesWarsaw is one of the safest cities in Europe.

It is three times safer than Paris, twice as safe as Rome and safer than Vienna.

The isolated case, however, did not stop the Polish capital from being on the rise as a tourist attraction for those who want to get to know Eastern Europe.

According to her own Forbesin 2023, Warsaw took first place as the best destination to visit within the continent, both for the quality of life and the options it offers to tourists.
