“Chaos is the law of nature; order is the dream of man.” Henry Adams

Finally, and after 5 years of negotiations with our authorities, last week, thanks to the determination of the Tijuana Town Council, through Councilor Eligio Valencia López, President of the Planning, Urban Planning, Metropolitan Development, Public Works and Services Commission of Tijuana and especially with the support of Mayor Montserrat Caballero, our dream of having a shooting range in Tijuana was crystallized.

For those who do not know about the subject, we will say that a duly authorized, regulated and supervised waste bank provides the service of collection, transportation and final disposal of solid waste derived from the construction process; however, strange as it may seem, Tijuana does not have with no shooting bench, despite the importance and growth of our City.

According to statistics from the authority itself, just over 500 clandestine dumps have been detected in the City where builders and transporters dispose of construction waste, without any supervision or care of the environment and all of this without being able to be sanctioned under that there is no authorized site for it.

As of last week, with the approval achieved in the Cabildo, work begins between the City Council and the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry in Tijuana (CMIC), to celebrate a collaboration agreement, which will make the long-awaited shooting bench for our City.

Having a construction waste bank offers multiple benefits, including:

1. Reduction in waste generation: Having a waste bank encourages the reuse and recycling of construction materials, which also helps reduce the environmental impact.

2. Saving natural resources: By reusing and recycling construction materials, the extraction of new natural resources, such as wood, stone or sand, is avoided, which contributes to conserving existing resources and preserving the environment.

3. Cost reduction: Using recycled or reused materials instead of buying new ones reduces construction costs. This is especially beneficial for low-budget construction projects.

4. Stimulation of the local economy: Construction waste banks promote the local economy by encouraging the trade in recycled construction materials. This benefits construction material suppliers and creates new employment opportunities.

5. Improvement of corporate image: Having a waste bank demonstrates the commitment of a company or community to sustainability and care for the environment. This improves its corporate image and attracts customers and residents concerned about caring for the environment.

6. Compliance with environmental regulations and laws: By properly managing construction waste, environmental regulations and laws are complied with, avoiding fines or sanctions.

In summary, having a construction waste bank is good for both the environment and the economy, by promoting the reuse and recycling of construction materials, also reducing costs and their environmental impact.

Our Chamber is pleased with the work carried out by our municipal authorities to eradicate a problem of pollution and anarchy, which our City has suffered for decades.
