Vienna. Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) announced two weeks ago that 1.9 million new, adapted vaccine doses will be offered to Austrians this year. According to a recent survey, only one in four Austrians wants to be vaccinated against the coronavirus this year. As skepticism towards the vaccine increases in the country, Austria is once again left with millions of unused vaccine doses. It was learned that there are a total of 17 million vaccine doses in stocks.

A new OGM survey commissioned by „Kurier“ reveals the extent of this vaccine waste. Only 26 percent of the population wants to be vaccinated this year. According to EXXpress, Austria has already had to throw away more than ten million vaccine doses (more than 200 million euros of taxpayers’ money). In the wake of costly vaccination campaigns and the recent corona panic, vaccine skepticism among the public continues to grow. Almost 74% of Austrians do not want to get the corona vaccine this year.

FPÖ voters most critical of vaccination, Greens most willing to vaccinate

According to the survey, the highest willingness to be vaccinated is seen in the group over the age of 50; 35 percent of this group plan to get vaccinated free of charge. In contrast, the willingness to be vaccinated among those under 30 is only 17 percent. In terms of political preferences, the highest willingness to be vaccinated appears to be among Green voters, at 40 percent. SPÖ voters come right behind with 39 percent, followed by ÖVP voters with 37 percent and Neos voters with 20 percent. On the other hand, only 9 percent of FPÖ voters say they want to be vaccinated this year. (yenivatan.at)
