Little by little, the bicycle is making its way into the workplace, thanks to long-term rental packages (LLD) comparable to those of company cars. “It has become an employee advantage and an HR lever to recruit and retain employeesassures Olivier Issaly, CEO of Zenride, the leader in corporate bicycle leasing. When those in charge create the right conditions for this mode of travel, we realize that it works immediately. » Indeed, everyone wins: the employer greens its image at lower costs and implements its CSR policy, while the employee saves on transport while taking care of their health. Zenride, which doubles its turnover each year (3.3 million in 2022), has 5,000 bicycles in its fleet and collaborates with large groups such as Saint-Gobain, Veolia, Safran and the Caisse d’Epargne. Its offer promises an employee to ride an electric bike (VAE) from 1 euro per day, or a 30% contribution to the monthly payments. The employer, for its part, finances 70% of the rents as part of the sustainable mobility package (FMD). A government scheme allowing you to benefit from a reduction in corporate tax of 700 euros per year per employee.

With the Zenride solution, the employee chooses their own bike in a network of 400 partner stores: 80% of beneficiaries opt for an electrically assisted model and 20% for a “muscular” one, according to the start-up, which buys the equipment and then sets the rental amount. Rental contracts generally have a duration of three years, with the possibility for the employee to purchase the bicycle at the end of the rental. They include helmet, anti-theft, insurance against theft and breakage, and even towing assistance. Zenride emphasizes that these cyclists are not all residents of large cities, since 80% of deliveries are made outside Île-de-France and major French metropolises. “ There is a big demand in the regions and in rural areas where there are industrial sites in particular. », recalls Olivier Issaly.

Function bike. Another commuter specialist, Tandem offers companies turnkey leasing with its catalog of electric bikes (classic, cargo or folding). Through assertive anti-car communication, this start-up founded in 2020 advocates the bicycle as a statutory company vehicle. It has around sixty clients, including Doctolib and Crédit Agricole. In a study carried out in partnership with YouGov, Tandem ensures that, whatever their age and family situation, one in two employees would be ready to give up the bus or the car to go to work if their company provided them with a company bike. The company points out that a 10 km commute to work by bike rather than by car saves 885 kg of CO2 per employee per year. That, during peak hours, the speed of the bicycle exceeds that of the car by 20% on average. Or, citing Medef, that the productivity of commuters is 9% higher on average. The fact remains that, according to the French Federation of Bicycle Users, the modal share of cycling in France for commuting is limited to 3%, or 500,000 enthusiasts. The car represents 70% of uses for this type of travel §
