It will soon be possible to win “20,000 euros per month for 30 years”, or 7.2 million euros, announced the Française des Jeux (FDJ), Friday October 20. Because twenty years after the launch of EuroMillions, the FDJ presents EuroDreams, the “first annuity game on a European scale”.

It’s “a major European event,” explains Stéphane Pallez, CEO of the FDJ group. This game brings together “a community of nine lotteries from eight different countries, a beautiful representation of Europe”, she rejoiced during a presentation organized at the Eiffel Tower, with the leaders of the other associated lotteries.

A draw in eight countries, but not in the United Kingdom

The first grids will go on sale on Monday October 30 and the first draw will be organized on Monday November 6. Sold for 2.50 euros, the grid offers “one chance in 19 million of winning the maximum gain” to French, Portuguese, Spanish, Belgian, Irish, Luxembourg, Austrian and Swiss players (in a country which has two lotteries), with two draws per week.

One country is missing: the United Kingdom. But if the country does not participate in EuroDreams, it is because they have a similar game, Set for Life, which is already very successful across the Channel, explains the leader of the FDJ. Nothing to do with Brexit, then.

In France, the only drawing game offering an annuity is Keno, launched in 2013. According to Stéphane Pallez, the launch of EuroDreams will have no impact on Keno, even if the latter is “set to evolve”.

A new game for 25-40 year olds

For the FDJ, which published this Thursday a slightly lower quarterly turnover, penalized by the low number of EuroMillions draws with high jackpots, it is a “major launch”, a “new chapter in our history”, said affirmed Stéphane Pallez, without however giving any forecasts. “We are giving ourselves two months to see how it starts and we will see on this basis if we can give any prospects. It does not have the size of EuroMillions, but it could be a game that fits into our biggest games in the future,” she believes.

The drawing, electronic, as for Keno, will be organized by the FDJ for all lotteries.

EuroDreams will not compete with EuroMillions

“This is a unique opportunity for us. With 600,000 inhabitants in Luxembourg, without this community, it would be impossible to offer such games,” said Leon Losch, general director of the Luxembourg national lottery.

According to Andrew Algeo of the Irish Lottery: “A EuroDreams grid is seven times more likely to be a winner than a EuroMillions grid. »

However, there is no question of competing with EuroMillions with EuroDreams: “We have done a lot of studies on our different markets and we are convinced that these games are complementary,” assured Stéphane Pallez.
