“Through a riot in which verbal and physical attacks against uniformed personnel were evident, a section of the unit was illegally detained and taken towards Puerto Cachicamo,” says a statement issued by the Military Forces.
To address the situation, an extraordinary security council was requested with the regional authorities to establish joint actions that would allow the military personnel to be safely recovered.
Likewise, the Military Forces announced that all pertinent legal measures will be taken. “It is important to mention that, despite the attacks, those in uniform have acted within the framework of International Human Rights Law and in accordance with institutional principles and values,” they noted.
