“Join us, don’t look at us, today is the day to say stop the violence in Marseille”: to the sound of a megaphone, a white march took place on Saturday for Socayna, broke at home, collateral victim of drug trafficking.

The hundred or so people who came to walk almost all wore t-shirts bearing the image of this 24-year-old young woman with long brown hair who was hit in her room on Sunday, September 10, by a burst of Kalashnikovs fired blindly, nearby. from a deal point in the Saint-Thys district (10th arrondissement).

“We need to communicate this pain and make people aware that it can happen at any time, to anyone. Socayna was simply in her room, in her pajamas, and she received a bullet which passed through a fragile wall,” explains Najet Arabi, cousin of the victim’s mother.

“Here there is a little one who died”

Carrying white flags or signs with rifles barred in red, the participants crossed the city center of Marseille in a serious atmosphere. The silence was sometimes interrupted by the women of the Collective of Families, on the megaphone: “The weather is nice, you go shopping. Here there is a little one who died a month ago, join us, don’t look at us.”

“His story saddened me,” admits a passerby, without joining the procession. The few people who joined were warmly applauded.

“Saint-Thys is my childhood town. For me, the social elevator worked. Socayna was the hope of this social success. And she was snatched from this apartment which witnesses this injustice every day for her family,” confides Hervé Menchon, deputy mayor of Marseille, who had difficulty containing his emotion.

“We must educate young people, put them on track very early, make them aware of the lure of quick profit, of the risks incurred” by drug trafficking, continues the elected official.

For the Renaissance MP for the constituency, Lionel Royer-Perreaut, it is necessary to strengthen the police presence and the resources of the judicial police. He is also thinking about the creation of “a territorial brigade mixing police officers and former soldiers to be part of the long term”.

With this death, “we have reached the ultimate level” of violence linked to narcobandism, estimated the former public prosecutor of Marseille, Dominique Laurens. Since January, this violence has already caused three collateral victims in Marseille, for around 45 deaths in total.
