The president of a synagogue in the American city of Detroit, in the north of the country, was found this Saturday stabbed at the door of her house, local police reported.
The victim, identified as Samantha Woll, ran the Isaac Agree Downtown Detroit Synagogue since 2022.
Authorities, alerted to the situation, discovered that a person “was lying unconscious on the ground” before being “declared dead at the scene,” the Detroit Free Press reported.
Woll, 40, had also worked for Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin and Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s re-election campaign. of the Democratic Party.
“I am shocked, saddened and horrified to learn of Sam’s brutal murder,” Nessel said in a statement.
“Sam was as kind a person as I have ever met. She was driven by her sincere love for her community, her state and her country. Sam truly used her faith and activism to create a better place for everyone,” he added.
Without giving further details, the synagogue reported on its Facebook page that its community was “shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden death” of Woll, president of the board of directors, the AFP news agency said.
For their part, the police stated that the first “examinations of the victim’s body revealed multiple stab wounds, so the investigation was handed over to the homicide unit,” although the motives for the attack are still unknown.

The death comes at a time of growing tension in the Jewish and Muslim communities in the United States over the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
