The Armenian service of RFE/RL – Azatutyun writes that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s speech at the European Parliament on October 17 caused a sharp reaction from both Baku and Moscow.
An unnamed “high-ranking Russian official” told the country’s official state news agency TASS that Pashinyan is following the path of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “with giant steps”:
“We consider the part of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s speech in the European Parliament on October 17 regarding Russia and Russian-Armenian relations to be completely irresponsible and provocative.”
That official later told TASS agency:
“If we consider Moldova as Ukraine number 2, we see that they want to turn Armenia into Ukraine number 3.”
Azatutyun notes that the alleged Russian official did not say who wanted to do it.

He emphasized that Yerevan is ready to sign a peace agreement based on mutual recognition of sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the opening of transport communications based on the principle of the sovereignty of the territory through which they pass.
Pashinyan also emphasized that Yerevan is ready to open the Megri railway (in Azerbaijan it is also called “Zangezur Corridor” – ed.) under the jurisdiction of Armenia.
The prime minister expressed his concern that the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev can use the “corridor” issue as a pretext for a new attack and occupation of Armenia.
In his speech, the Prime Minister of Armenia also asked European deputies for support in establishing peace in the region.
