Browns’ Deshaun Watson Sidelined After Taking a Big Hit in Sunday’s Game

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson left Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts in the first quarter after absorbing a heavy hit. Despite being cleared after a concussion evaluation, Watson did not return to the field.

Following the game, Watson revealed that his head was not initially a concern. He went to the sideline medical tent to have his right shoulder examined before a spotter intervened to conduct a concussion check. The quarterback had already missed the previous two games due to a shoulder injury, but the Browns never officially disclosed this as the reason for his absence. Watson stated that he wasn’t sure if he reinjured his shoulder during the play and expects further evaluation on Monday.

Expressing his concerns, Watson said, “I’m praying it’s not anything worse. That’s all I can do right now.”

Head coach Kevin Stefanski explained his decision to keep Watson out of the game, stating that he “did not want to see him get hit.” Despite Watson’s desire to get back on the field, he understood why the team opted to have backup quarterback P.J. Walker finish the game, which the Browns won 39-38.

When asked about the decision, Watson responded, “Of course, I want to compete. I’m a competitor. I want to go out there to help the team as much as possible and go out there and play and perform and compete. The decision was best for the team, and they felt that was the best, and P.J. did a great job of finishing the game.”

Stefanski indicated that Watson will start in the Browns’ next game. However, the quarterback’s availability for Week Eight remains uncertain. Further updates on Watson’s condition are expected in the coming days.
