Frederick Lau looks too deeply into the glass, a German director bows to film noir, Michael Fassbinder plays a killer. There is also news from Pumuckl.

Almost all of us know at least one person whose drinking behavior has worried us at some point. Mark (Frederick Lau) is that person. Although he has a job as a construction manager on a large construction site, he regularly immerses himself in Berlin’s nightlife during the week. Because he parked his car while drunk, the police finally took away his driver’s license. In the MPU course he has to deal with his own alcohol consumption for the first time. There he meets Helena (Nora Tschirner), who has an alcohol problem herself. Together they try to get their addiction under control.

“The Theory of Everything” – Film Noir Homage

A young German director landed his second film in the prestigious Venice Film Festival competition: it caused a stir in the summer. Timm Kröger, 37, from Itzehoe, presented his work “The Theory of Everything” with Jan Bülow in the leading role. The black-and-white thriller, set in a hotel in the Swiss Alps in the 1960s, is a homage to film noir.

“The Killer”: Michael Fassbender in new thriller

In “The Killer” Michael Fassbender embodies a nameless killer who has to give up his strict philosophy of life. At the beginning of the film he is hiding in Paris to carry out a contract killing. After he fails, the killer himself becomes the target of an attack. He then goes on a campaign of revenge – and suddenly has to improvise. Tilda Swinton can be seen in a supporting role in the Netflix production (streaming start: November 10th).

“The most boring school in the world”

Hamburg (dpa) – Laughing forbidden, whispering forbidden, questions forbidden. The chaotic Maxe (Lucas Herzog) is sure: he goes to the most boring school in the world. He has to follow 777 absurd regulations here. Luckily, a crazy inspector (Serkan Kaya) from the “Authority for Combating Boredom” suddenly shows up – and sends Maxe and his classmates on a wild school trip. There they have to come up with a plan to stop the horrible school principal (Max Giermann). Director Ekrem Ergün has brought the first volume of a children’s book series of the same name to the big screen with wit and imagination.

“New stories from Pumuckl”

The new “Pumuckl” is not a movie. But a few weeks before the start of the series “New Stories from Pumuckl” on the streaming channel RTL+, the first three episodes can be seen on the big screen. After 30 years of vacancy, Master Eder’s nephew Florian takes over the carpenter’s workshop – including the goblin. Marcus H. Rosenmüller (“Beckenrand Sheriff”) directs, Florian Brückner (“Das Boot”) plays the carpenter and Maxi Schafroth speaks the animated Klabautermann.
