The iQFOil Children and Youth World Championship has been launched in Cadiz waters, on a first day marked by light wind and deep swell, a consequence of the storm that hit the Andalusian coast a few hours ago. The first departures took place an hour late waiting for optimal conditions, and then, the girls were the first to return to land with a single test held when the wind fell in their area, while the Under 17 men could complete two before returning and the Under 19s remained in the bay until they completed three races, combining technical regattas and slalom.

The Spanish from the Balearic territory Caterina Tomas wins the test in her fleet (U17) and beats the European champion, the Italian Medea Falconi, and the also Spanish from the Valencian Sailing federation, Martina Mantovani. The top5 is completed by the Czech Alexandra Lojinova and the Polish Sonia Maliszewska. Among the majors, Under 19, the winner was the Norwegian Maya Gysler, followed by the Italian Carola Colasanto and the continental champion, the Czech Kristyna Pinosova, followed by her compatriot Nela Sadilkova and the Polish Aleksandra Wasiewicz, fifth.

The French Hoel Quintric and Kylian Manhaval take the two tests in their respective groups and share the lead in Under 17, followed with two more points by the Spanish and Andalusian Antonio Medina, 2nd in both tests. The host gets into the fight and stands up to the dominance of the French who continue up to sixth place, with Félix Dary fourth with two points more than the RC El Candado windsurfer, followed one point by his compatriots Maxime Parisse and Titouan Lethuillier , tied for fifth and sixth place, respectively.

In the men’s Under 19 fleet, those who worked the most with three events, the first leadership is shared by three athletes; the Italian current European champion, Federico Alan Pilloni, winner of the three events in his group, the Latvian Davis Mazais, who has the same points with two 1st and the discarding of a 3rd, and the Italian Leonardo Tomasini who does the same with two victories and the discarding of one off line. With one more point, the next classified is the Polish Stanislaw Trepczynski, followed by his compatriot Igor Lewinski and the Frenchman Lucas Gadeyne, tied for fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Without a world championship at stake, the organization will recognize the first in the Under 15 category, which after this first round are the Frenchman Oscar Florín and the Italian Medea Falconi. The youngest ones sail with the Under 17s, hence the merit of Florín’s eighth place and Falconi’s second overall.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, the day will begin with the delivery of lycras to the first three finishers in each class, something that will be repeated every day and whose objective is to distinguish the best of the day. Then, the qualifying tests will follow with the first departures scheduled at 12:00 p.m.
