Nashville Police Chief’s Son Wanted for Attempted First-Degree Murder

Authorities in Tennessee are on the lookout for John Drake Jr., the son of Nashville’s police chief, who is a suspect in the shooting of two suburban police officers. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued a statewide blue alert, urging the public to be cautious as Drake Jr. is considered “armed and very dangerous.”

According to Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake, he was shocked and deeply saddened to learn that his estranged son is the suspect in the shooting incident. Drake Jr. has a history of criminal activity and is a convicted felon. The chief expressed his thoughts and well wishes for the wounded officers.

The shooting occurred during an altercation in La Vergne, a suburb of Nashville. The officers were investigating a stolen vehicle when they made contact with the suspect. A struggle ensued, and the suspect produced a handgun, firing shots at the officers.

Officer Ashely Boleyjack and Officer Gregory Kern were injured in the shooting. Boleyjack was released from the hospital, while Kern remained overnight for observation and is now in stable condition. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation described the suspect as 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighing 195 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

The city of La Vergne issued a shelter in place order as the search for Drake Jr. continued. However, the order was lifted shortly after midnight as there was no immediate threat to the public. A reward of $2,500 has been offered for information leading to Drake Jr.’s arrest.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect to come forward and help in the apprehension of John Drake Jr., who remains a sought-after individual in Tennessee.
