According to the specialist, to qualify as a white Halloween you must have at least an inch of snow on the ground on the morning of October 31. Or, that snow accumulates to at least 0.1 inches on that date, based on the criteria used by the National Weather Service to classify a white Christmas.
The information is based on historical weather data from recent years, which shows a high chance of snowfall in 48 states, especially at higher elevations in the northern and central Rocky Mountains.
On the highest peaks west of Denver and those in Yellowstone National Park in northeast Wyoming, there will be a 25 to 50 percent chance that people will go trick-or-treating in a snowy environment. .
Halloween is one of America’s favorite traditions.
The probability is only 10 to 25 percent in the Cascades of Washington and Oregon, the northern plains of Minnesota and the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan although it is not ruled out.
