Deutsche Bahn is currently working intensively on improving its own image. Instead of delays and train cancellations, the group wants to stand for modern rail travel in the future. A further step in this direction has been taken with the new interior design of the ICE3neo, which has adorned the first express train since October 23, 2023.
“The ICE is a design icon and the flagship of the long-distance transport fleet,” says Dr. Michael Peterson, DB board member for long-distance passenger transport, was quoted in the relevant press release. “Now, with the new interior design of the trains, we are raising travel comfort in long-distance transport to a new level.” In this context, the group speaks of a “new era of travel”.
More accessibility and comfort
Specifically, passengers can look forward to new seats with more adjustment options, pleasant fabrics and modern colors in the future. The group also expects more functionality with an additional tablet holder and coat hooks on each backrest. Accessibility in the newly designed trains is also increasing: the seats are marked with Braille and the wheelchair ramp has been modernized.
The ICE3neo now presented is the 17th of its kind to hit the rails within a year. Supplies are already on the way. “Starting in November, a complete 8-car ICE 3neo will roll out of our factory in Krefeld every 16 days,” says Michael Peter, CEO Siemens Mobility. A total of 73 more trains will follow by 2028 with the new interior design, which already adorns numerous DB travel centers and DB lounges.
