He self-consumption It does not stop growing. Endesathe main distribution company in Catalonia, activates an average of 4,000 installations per month. As a result of this pace, the company has reached 36,180 new installations launched in the first nine months of the year, through its subsidiary e-distribution.

The total number of these installations through which users generate their own energy exceeds 86,000, both individual and collective, connected to the distribution network in Catalonia. This amount represents a growth of 72% compared to the end of 2022, when there were 53,043. The company attributes the acceleration in the processing pace to “various measures” that have been applied to speed up the processwhich, according to their estimates, will allow the year to end with a new record of activations.

Of the total self-consumption supplies connected to the distribution network, 98% correspond to individual installations and more than 2,000, to groups, that is, those that can supply up to two kilometers of distance, which is the legal limit set. In the collective self-consumption part, the growth experienced compared to December of last year is 2,000%. The total installed power rises about 1,000 megawatts (MW), the equivalent of the power of a nuclear one, although this produces almost every day of the year and solar, around a quarter.

e-distribution, which operates as a distributor mainly in Catalonia, Andalusia, Aragon, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands and part of Extremadura, experiences exponential growth of self-consumption in all these areas. In Catalonia the increase is 72% in the number of active installations compared to the end of 2022. At the same time, it concentrates 57% of all collective self-consumption in the State. Last week, the president Peter Aragonés He insisted on the Government’s commitment to the deployment of renewable energies and the green transition, after a decade of paralysis. He highlighted self-consumption as one of the pillars of this process.

One of the ways for the Catalan Executive to further grow this formula for generating energy is through the public firm l’Energètica, which has among its tasks the management of all photovoltaic installations in buildings of the Generalitat. The company started with this task a few weeks ago.

Endesa assures that its subsidiary works to streamline procedures, especially in collective facilities, which are the most complex. In the neighboring communitiess, the regulation provides for the involvement of up to seven agents in the processing process: the client, the community of owners, the installer, the city council, the autonomous community, the distributor and the marketer. In individual self-consumption, the company proposed that the modification of the contract between distributor and customer (that of third party access to the network) be done within 10 days to receive confirmation from the autonomous community that the client has correctly registered the installation, without waiting to receive the request from the marketer, a measure that has been applied since June.

To further streamline the procedures for collective self-consumption, from this Monday, October 23e-distribution will validate the necessary documentation only once (sharing agreement signed by all self-consumers and file with all sharing coefficients) when you receive the correct documentation from one of the participants.

All of this will mean a big change, since until now the distributor was obliged to obtain this documentation from each marketer of each of the self-consumers, which lengthened the activation periods. “unnecessarily and, on many occasions, rejecting applications due to errors in the documentation”. Another key element is the improvement of information to customers and the rest of the agents who interact in this process, explains the company.
