We will be able to exceed (…) 120 mm occasionally between Ardèche and Ain. »

The Alpes-Maritimes department, affected on Friday by the Aline depression, which only caused material damage, went from red rain flood vigilance to orange vigilance for the day of Tuesday, until 11 a.m. “In addition to significant electrical activity and gusts of around 60 km/h to 80 km/h, we expect high rainfall intensities, both in coastal areas and in the hinterland impacted by the recent storm Aline »notes the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture in a press release. “The accumulations expected during the episode are 60 mm to 80 mm widespread in a short time, and occasionally 100 millimeters under the strongest and least mobile storms”she adds.

Stormy rains in Corsica

In the morning, the rainy weather will linger over the eastern third and extend to Corsica. The heaviest rains will occur between the Rhône valley, Franche-Comté and the Alps. Thunderstorms will break out in the east of the PACA region, with sometimes heavy rain.

In Nice, where the mayor, Christian Estrosi, announced the activation of a municipal command post from 3 a.m. on Tuesday, parks and gardens, cemeteries and recycling centers will remain closed “at least part of the day of October 24, or even the whole day if the situation requires it”according to a city press release.

Friday, in the Alpes-Maritimes which were placed on red rain and flood alert, the flow of the Vésubie jumped from 60 cubic meters per second to 200 m3/s and submerged two temporary bridges, carrying away sections of the roadway and cutting the access to the village of Venanson (170 inhabitants), and to several hundred homes in Saint-Martin-Vésubie. However, these bad weather did not cause any casualties.

In the afternoon, the rains from the south-east will slowly shift towards the Alpine massif and the Côte d’Azur while weakening. On the other hand, they will strengthen to become stormy in Corsica, with a fairly strong southwest wind on the extremities and the relief of the Isle of Beauty.
