The leadership of the Popular Party has urged the president of the Congress of Deputies, Francina Armengol, early this Monday, to call the investiture plenary session of Pedro Sánchez after learning of the agreement reached between PSOE and Sumar this very night to reissue a Government progressive.

The PP is abuzz with the internal changes announced by Feijóo while awaiting Sánchez’s investiture

With some sarcasm, PP sources consider that “now that Sánchez has achieved Sumar’s support against the odds,” the country “overcome a debate that had Spaniards in suspense in recent weeks.” “And once there is finally an agreement between the acting president and the acting vice president, we are waiting for the president of Congress to receive authorization from Pedro Sánchez to call a plenary session of investiture now that three weeks have passed since Secondly, Sánchez received the king’s task of achieving a parliamentary majority,” they add.

Also in an ironic tone, the PP points out that “once recovered from the surprise that the agreement between PSOE and Sumar has entailed”, Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s team wants to “value the negotiating capacity of Yolanda Díaz, who until the last moment “She has shown herself to be inflexible and totally willing to stop being vice president and join the opposition as long as she does not give up her iron principles and that they prevail in her pact with the socialists.”

Returning to the date of the investiture debate, “the PP allows itself to remember that, although the date was set for Feijóo in real time, it has not been determined for Sánchez 21 days later. And meanwhile, the acting Government has been without control of the Legislature for more than five months, which shows the deterioration of the Spanish parliamentary system.”

Against “translators” and “headsets”

“With a Sánchez who did not intervene in the investiture session, who vetoes the presence of his ministers in the Senate, who asks his presidents not to participate in debates in the Upper House, and with an Armengol who hires translators and buys headphones without respect the procedures, and that the concept ‘null vote’ is invented in a vote of yes, no or abstention, Spanish democracy is beginning to show room for improvement,” the PP sources conclude in that same tone between ironic and sarcastic.

Early this Monday and after weeks of negotiations, PSOE and Sumar announced the pact with which they intend to reissue a progressive Government in a statement in which they consider that their agreement “thus responds to the clear message that citizens sent in the elections on July 23: the rejection of a government of the right and the extreme right in Spain, and the mandate to continue advancing in rights and freedoms.
