The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) informs the public that it publishes, by its Decision No. 116/CENI/AP/2023 of October 19, 2023, the provisional list of candidacies declared admissible and inadmissible for the presidential election of December 20, 2023.

Of the total of 24 applications received, all of which were deemed compliant and declared admissible. Among the admissible applications, there are 23 men (96%) and 1 woman (4%). Of these candidates, 16 are independents, 6 candidates presented by political parties and 2 from political groups.

No application was declared inadmissible. The candidates for President of the Republic included on the provisional list thus published will be notified without delay, in accordance with article 106 of the Electoral Law.

The rest of the operational timeline relating to candidacies for the presidential election is as follows:

From October 20 to 22, 2023: In accordance with article 107 of the Electoral Law, filing of appeals contesting candidacies for the presidential election before the Constitutional Court; From October 23 to 29, 2023: Processing of appeals contesting candidacies for the presidential election before the Constitutional Court; From October 30 to November 2, 2023: Notification to the CENI of the Decisions of the Constitutional Court; From November 3 to 6, 2023: Consideration by the CENI of the Decisions of the Constitutional Court; November 18, 2023: Publication of the final list of candidates for the presidential election in accordance with article 110 of the Electoral Law which stipulates: “the electoral campaign is open twenty-four hours after the publication of the final list of candidates and ends twenty-four hours before the opening of the vote”.

The CENI reminds independent candidates, parties and political groups that in accordance with the provisions of article 107 of the electoral law, complaints and disputes relating to the validity of a candidacy are brought before the Constitutional Court within forty -eight (48) hours following the publication or notification of the Decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission. The Constitutional Court rules without costs within seven days following the expiry of the period referred to above.

The numbers included with regard to the name of each candidate for President of the Republic on the provisional list are considered final.
