Hamas Terrorists Foiled in Attempted Sea Invasion of Israel
Early Wednesday morning, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that Hamas terrorists had made an audacious attempt to infiltrate Israeli territory by sea the previous day. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the IDF explained that naval forces in southern Israel had identified the terrorists and successfully thwarted their mission.
“The terrorists were identified and the tunnel they were using was struck, along with a weapons warehouse utilized by the terrorists in Gaza,” the IDF stated. However, the IDF later updated the post, revealing that the Hamas terrorists had been found exiting a tunnel on the Gaza coast, attempting to infiltrate southern Israel via the sea.
Fox News’ Trey Yingst, reporting from Israel on Wednesday, disclosed that small arms fire occurred overnight near the beach of Zikim, located between Israel and Gaza. In response, the Israeli military fired flares to deter further aggression. Yingst also reported that two Hamas militants were killed during the infiltration attempt. He highlighted the existence of a Hamas “frogman unit,” composed of trained scuba divers, used in their efforts to access Israeli territory from the Mediterranean Sea.
“This just gives you a sense of the different ways Hamas is trying to target Israel,” Yingst commented on the incident. He further noted that Hamas had sought to infiltrate Israel by sea in the past, with videos showcasing Israel’s navy responding by firing into the water to neutralize any militants present.
Yingst added, “It was absolutely a suicide mission. The Israelis have locked down the beach, the sea. They have naval ships off the coast of Gaza and Israel. They’ve got infantry troops along the northern part of the Gaza Strip.” Given the robust security measures in place, Yingst questioned the reason behind the attempted infiltration, stating that it did not “make sense.”
The IDF’s successful prevention of the Hamas sea invasion highlights the continued threat posed by the terrorist group. As tensions persist between Israel and Gaza, both sides remain vigilant in defending their respective territories.
