European manufacturers know that they need emerging markets, where there is still appetite for vehicle purchases, to cement their growth strategies. For this reason, Renault has presented its international strategy for 2027 in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

The manufacturer has focused on five key regions to focus its efforts: South Korea, Morocco, Turkey, India and Latin America.

The latter is, in fact, key because since Russia’s departure in 2022, Brazil has become its second largest market after France and it is from its Curitiba factory that the first vehicle it presented for its offensive until 2027 will come out: the Kardian.

That will be the spearhead for the models that will follow. The manufacturer has confirmed that three more of the C segment, two of the D segment and two commercial vehicles are still to come: a van and a pick-up.

In total, the French brand intends to invest more than 3 billion euros in the next four years to offer “global low emissions models” for the duration of its strategy.

Among the objectives is that one of every three models sold be hybrid or electric by that date, something they hope to achieve with the new modular platform used by the Kardian. This is capable of equipping thermal or hybridized engines, either light, 48 volts, or complete with E-Tech thrusters.

This architecture is intended for all markets other than South Korea – there they will use Renault’s CMP modular platform – and which also uses the latest generation of Dacia. This construction allows the creation of models from segments B, C and D, between four and five meters long, as well as front- or all-wheel drive.

The Kardian will be the first model to be equipped with a new three-cylinder gasoline engine, which will develop 125 horsepower and will also be manufactured at the Curitiba plant, in which the group has invested 300 million euros. In 2024, this model will also be produced in Casablanca (Morocco).

In addition to the Kardian, Renault presented the Niagara ‘concept’, a pick-up that “reflects the design elements of the future”, according to the brand’s CEO, Fabrice Cambolive. This will go in a much more robust direction.
