The Directorate of University Extension of the Externado, the Colombian Association of Universities –ASCUN– and the National Network of University Extension developed the IX Meeting of the Extension Network called ‘Extension in the new national context: challenges and challenges in education’.

During the meeting, Dr. Antonio Roveda, director of University Extension of our House of Studies, socialized some of the challenges faced by universities around the world, which were exposed during the Stockholm World Congress in 2022: the internal transformations that are being experienced The education; regulatory frameworks, which refer to issues of access, democracy, relevance and sustainability; and what will be the university’s relationship strategies in the future.

“The debate is global, the debate is not just Colombia or Bogotá, that is, the crisis and urgency of transformation in education is a global issue,” stated Dr. Roveda.

The event was a scenario for analyzing the challenges that university extension has in the country, within the framework of a possible reform of higher education; What will be its role in the National Development Plan and in the transformation of the country’s public policies, and what strategies can be implemented to strengthen it.

The director of ASCUN, Óscar Domínguez, thanked the attendees for their participation in the meeting and the Externado de Colombia University for its hospitality, and reaffirmed the importance of continuing to work and dialogue to expand the possibility of action of university extension , especially because it is called to offer a new vision of higher education to students.

To face the challenges of the higher education sector, Carlos Julio Escobar, Vice Chancellor of Extension and Social Projection of the María Cano University Foundation, proposed the establishment of cooperation alliances between business and government organizations; teacher training to master tools for teaching in virtual environments; the use of Artificial Intelligence; among other actions.

Within the framework of the meeting, which brought together directors of the higher education institutions of the Center node, a panel was held on extension in light of the reform of Law 30 of 1992, and one on the importance of university extension to build a new economic development from the local, popular and social perspective.
