Minister of Construction and Housing Urges Financial Assistance for Evacuated Residents of Public Housing

After meeting with the residents of public housing and senior citizens who were caught up in the fighting and forced to evacuate their homes, Minister of Construction and Housing Goldknopf has called for urgent assistance for these residents. Yesterday, Goldknopf convened the heads of government companies to examine housing solutions and provide the necessary support to the affected individuals.

Following the meeting, Minister Yitzhak Goldknopf reached out to Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich, appealing for a budget to cancel the rents for the residents of public housing in the South and North regions. Goldknopf emphasized the urgency of the situation and the need to alleviate the plight of these individuals.

“In light of the instructions of the Home Front Command to evacuate settlements adjacent to the fence, the residents of public housing, most of them hard-working people from a low socioeconomic status, some of whom have even been sent to unemployment benefits, we have the duty to act as much as necessary to make it easier for them to get through the coming period,” stated Goldknopf during his address.

The current conflict, known as the “Iron Swords” war, has caused significant disruptions in the affected regions. According to Ministry reports, approximately 4,000 residents from public housing and 1,300 residents from Golden Age homes have been evacuated from settlements such as Kiryat Shmona, Shlomi, Ashkelon, Sderot, Ofakim, and Netivot.

The Ministry’s donors are working diligently to provide aid and support to those affected. However, the situation demands immediate financial assistance to ensure the well-being and stability of these residents.

Minister Goldknopf’s urgent appeal to Minister Smotrich underscores the severity of the housing crisis caused by the ongoing conflict. By canceling rents for the affected residents, the government aims to ease their financial burdens and help them navigate through this challenging period.

The government’s commitment to assisting those in public housing and the vulnerable elderly population is commendable. With immediate action, it is hoped that these individuals can find comfort and stability in their temporary living arrangements while the conflict subsides.

As the conflict continues, all eyes are on the government’s response to the housing crisis. The residents affected by forced evacuations deserve the support needed to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of this devastating situation.
