Something promised, something due. The salaries of judicial magistrates are increasing by 1,000 euros gross per month from October, as Éric Dupond-Moretti promised last year, according to a letter sent Thursday to magistrates by the Minister of Justice.

“I announced in September 2022 that in October 2023, magistrates would see their salaries increase by 1,000 euros gross on average. (…) You were able, or will soon see it on your pay slip, it is now done,” wrote the minister.

Last year, Éric Dupond-Moretti mentioned this measure, described as “unprecedented” and “considerable” and which aimed to align the remuneration of judicial magistrates with that of administrative magistrates.

According to him, the remuneration of magistrates of the judicial order, which summarily includes civil and criminal justice, had not been upgraded “since 1996” and required an upgrade with administrative judges, who are responsible for settling disputes. with the administration.

Rewarding an “indispensable” commitment

The minister thus affirmed that he wanted to put an end to “years of abandonment” and tackle the problems of “attractiveness” of the judicial order.

“If I wanted to increase your remuneration, it is because I know to what extent your daily commitment is essential to the functioning of our jurisdictions, large and small,” added in his letter.

This revaluation concerns the 9,000 magistrates of the judicial order of France, for a total cost of 120 million euros over a full year.
