Fernando Alonso could not complete a clean lap in either Free Practice 1 or Free Practice 2 of the Mexican GP. The Spaniard, in the first stages, went off the track when he was just over two tenths behind Max Verstappen’s time in a last sector that he also choked on in the second testing session.

In one in which he demonstrated total control over the Aston Martin. In which he put into practice that great experience that he has at a time when who knows what others would have done. Because even when he fails, Alonso is capable of teaching with a steering wheel in his hands.

The AMR23 was completely behind him in his attempt, the only attempt, with the soft rubber in Free Practice 2 at Hermanos Rodríguez. In those, when the car seemed completely out of control, Fernando appeared to make something that could have ended up against the wall a scare.

A manual 360

Tremendous 360 was marked, with a slight off-track that destroyed his time and tires, but which could have ended much worse.

This is how Fernando Alonso tells it: “I lost the car… but I felt good. Happy. We were working on race pace and in runs with a lot of fuel.”

If it had not been especially for what happened in Free Practice 1, Fernando Alonso could have finished the first test session among the top four and who knows if among the best three.

Alonso, happy with the new package

However, due to not having obtained a clean lap, he was P14 and P20 in both tests… but Alonso is very calm and positive with the new Aston Martin package.
