Man Arrested After Hit-and-Run Accident on Nockeby Bridge

A hit-and-run accident on Friday evening has left one young man dead and a girl injured, who is currently being treated in the hospital. The incident took place on the Nockeby bridge between Ekerö and Bromma at 9:39 PM, as the young people were traveling on a moped.

According to the police, the collision occurred due to a very careless overtaking by a motorist in his 40s. After the accident, the driver fled the scene and continued driving towards the Mälar Islands. However, his escape came to a halt when he collided with a bus. A security guard witnessed the incident and promptly handcuffed the man until the police arrived.

“We have witness information which states that he has collided with other cars further out on the islands after the overtake on the bridge which caused the death of the young man,” said police spokesperson Ola Österling.

When asked about other injuries, Österling reported that one person had complained of neck pain but did not require hospitalization.

The suspect was arrested during the night and is now facing charges of causing the death of another person, causing bodily harm, and driving under the influence of drugs. As investigations progress, additional charges may be added.

Due to the severity of the incident, the police called in extra personnel overnight. The seized vehicles are currently undergoing technical examination, and the police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen any part of the incident to come forward.

The Nockeby bridge, connecting Drottningholm Castle, was the scene of the tragic accident. Authorities are working diligently to gather more information and bring justice to those affected by this senseless act.
