The fire started around 2pm and shortly after smoke began to engulf the building.
Fire in vegetation on Raul Pires Barbosa Street, in the Chácara Cachoeira neighborhood, advanced onto the road and towards Proncor Hospital, disrupting traffic and worrying patients. The hospital unit’s fire alarm was activated due to the amount of smoke that entered the building.
A hospital patient who did not want to be identified said that she arrived at the scene early today and was treated in the clinical emergency, on the 1st floor, when in the afternoon, around 2pm, smoke began to fill the building. “I was scared and ran away, but it was even worse down there,” she said, detailing that even the fire alarm went off due to the amount of steam formed by the fire.
At the hospital, no one wanted to speak to the reporter. However, images sent by the Direto das Ruas channel show the internal area of the place filled with smoke and patients and staff worried about the situation.
In the fire, the Fire Department reported that it uses dampers to contain the fire and that it was not necessary to use water because the vegetation is still damp and therefore the fire does not spread and burns slowly.
