Hamburg/Braunschweig-The fact that the Hamburg musician Bosse was able to make an entire album about dreaming has its roots in the previous album “Sunnyside”. That’s why he wrote the song “The Paradise” and this paradise is the dream of a “great society,” reveals Axel Bosse in an interview with the German Press Agency in Hamburg. “And that was actually my first real lyrical dream experience. And I kind of noticed that.”

And with each additional song for the new record he wanted to give the theme of dreams a further facet. Daydreams, the social dream, dreaming of a shared future. “And then I knew fairly quickly: I think I want to call it ‘About Dreaming’. And that’s my playing field now.”

Positive mood – not for Miresepeter

The wonderful Bosse sound that the Braunschweig native has found for himself in recent years can also be found in most of the songs on the ninth album. The sounds are immediately catchy, often invite you to dance and, as is so often the case, Bosse has composed songs that you can usually sing along to loudly after listening to them just once or twice.

On the other hand, “Übers Traumen” is probably not for curmudgeons: the basic mood of all the songs – even with melancholic thoughts and quiet songs – is quite positive and forward-looking. If you like that, listening to the record will do you a lot of good.

Bosse makes exactly the music that he likes as a music consumer. That’s why he started as a musician in the first place, says the Braunschweiger, who in his opinion found the typical Bosse style from the third album (“Taxi”). “It has always been the case for me that I remember, take with me, or take with me the things that I can dance to and still have a lyrical experience that somehow moves me forward or meets my situation.” For him, these were always the strongest songs.

Berlin pub choir sings along

The album also seems to be a homage to singing: Bosse not only sang “Ein Traum” with the Berlin pub choir. The choir was also allowed to sing along to “I love you so” and “Fall asleep with me”. He usually works on his albums largely alone. “When over 20 people sang ‘Ein Traum’ in the studio, it quickly became clear to me – I hadn’t had this much joy in a long time. Just singing with others in the studio is a euphoric feeling.”

Axel “Aki” Bosse achieves the feat of making you feel good about his songs after the first listen. Almost every song contains memories, feelings or thoughts that you have already experienced yourself in exactly the same way or in a similar way. In his catchy descriptions of everyday life, stumbling, doubting, celebrating and feeling, he has also hidden real poetic delicacies: “Let’s cry until the pattex is no longer sticky – otherwise I won’t be able to continue living,” sings Bosse, for example, in “Let Go learn”.

“About Dreaming” is about hoping, about reveling, about loving, about utopias, about despair, about letting go – about all the ups and downs that life simply brings with it without asking.

The specialist magazine “Musikexpress” has also recognized Axel Bosse as someone for whom social issues such as equality, equality and freedom of religion are naturally placed alongside personal issues such as self-love, self-deception and depression.

Desire to experiment

At the same time, Bosse also tried new things: “With a song like ‘Royales Morgenblau’ I simply experimented with strings that then ruined everything at the back and so on. I thought that was good,” says the 43-year-old with a laugh.

He also had a lot of fun singing songs with other musicians. “I wrote the song ‘Salzwasser’ in six minutes. And when I call Alligatoah, who I’m such a big fan of, and he writes great lyrics on it, then that’s twice as nice for me. Or if Sven Regener comes over and plays a trumpet for ‘Kreuzberggirls’, then that is more valuable to me than the song itself. That’s what makes you want it.”
