Kylian Mbappé, captain of PSG on Sunday against Brest (3-2), justified his taunts towards the public by claiming that one of his teammates had been “insulted” during the match. “Well of course and I should have even sang with them when they insulted my teammate. Some have really never set foot on a football field regardless of the level…” reacted Kylian Mbappé on X (formerly Twitter).

He was responding to a message from a journalist from the L’Équipe channel, who said that “a captain of the French team should not do that”. After scoring PSG’s winning goal in Brest on a penalty, his second of the match, Kylian Mbappé provoked the crowd at the Francis-Le Blé stadium with several humorous hand gestures. At the end of this sequence and before being replaced (90th + 1), he received a yellow card.

The Brest coach “surprised”

“We just knew that he had a little discomfort in the middle of his back and asked to be replaced, I saw a little tension with the stands, but that’s all,” explained the coach of the PSG Luis Enrique, after the match. “It’s normal… Yes, he was angry because of the public, because of the chants of the supporters,” declared Parisian Danilo in the mixed zone, without specifying who was targeted.

For his part, Brest coach Eric Roy said he was “a little surprised”, finding this behavior “ridiculous”. “The atmosphere is quite healthy. So of course you can always be heckled. When you have the match you had, you scored two goals, it’s a bit ridiculous, you have to be above that. It’s a shame, it tarnishes the end of this match,” he commented.
