22-year-old Arrested and Charged with Murder in Tampa Shooting Incident
Tampa, Florida – A 22-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with second degree murder after a shooting on a busy street in Tampa early Sunday morning. The incident resulted in the deaths of two people and left 16 others injured.
The shooting occurred following a dispute between two groups as hundreds of people were leaving bars and nightclubs in Tampa’s Ybor City neighborhood. Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw stated that a 14-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man were killed in the incident.
The injured victims, ranging from 18 to 27 years old, were immediately treated at the scene and transported to nearby hospitals by Tampa Fire Rescue. According to a statement from the police, most of the victims have already been released, but five individuals remain hospitalized.
Initially, police reported that 18 people were injured, but Chief Bercaw clarified that two people were killed and 16 others were injured. Officers responded promptly to the shooting, which took place in the early hours of Sunday.
Tyrell Stephen Phillips, the 22-year-old suspect, now faces a second degree murder charge. Firearms were recovered at the scene, one of which was found to be stolen. Authorities are still investigating the possibility of other shooters involved in the incident.
