Our hands capture the world and constantly tell us of its texture and its dangers, allowing us to speak to it and manipulate it as we wish.
It’s the story of a hand. Well, rather two, because these funny appendages always go in pairs. Even a multitude, those of musicians and writers, craftsmen and artists, pastry chefs and mathematicians, architects and linguists, physiotherapists, athletes, historians or fighter pilots… A multitude of which the neurosurgeon Dorian Chauvet has collected the testimonies in a very pretty work with nearly 100 voices, famous or anonymous, who reveal their secrets to us.
The power of communication
«Exquise extension» of the arm, the hands are equipped with“an anatomy of formidable complexity” which allows them “thousands of poses”. Yet the fingers, “sticks of bones, muscles, skin” for the writer Arthur Dreyfus, they would seem almost archaic.
