The jihadist advance towards the Gulf of Guinea from the Western Sahel has been taking place for several years, but today it takes place in a context of deteriorating security in the region due to the withdrawal of Western troops, the appearance of the Wagner group and the expansion of organized crime. With territorial conquest, terrorists seek to establish themselves in refuge areas, increase their financing, increase their operational capacity and swell their ranks. Meanwhile, the countries of the Gulf of Guinea present structural weaknesses that could make them succumb to the jihadist threat. To combat this scourge, it is necessary that, with the help of the international community, appropriate measures be established, focused on security, development and governance.
