Former Spanish Federation president Luis Rubiales has been suspended for three years by FIFA from “all football-related activities at national and international level” for forcibly kissing player Jennifer Hermoso.

The red card turns scarlet. The former president of the Spanish Federation Luis Rubiales was suspended on Monday October 30 for three years by the International Football Federation (FIFA) of “any activity linked to football at the national and international level” for having forcibly kissed the player Jennifer Hermoso after the world coronation of “Roja” last August.

Former vice-president of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) found guilty of an offense in Article 13 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. Devoted to “discrimination”, this text punishes in particular the fact of “undermining the dignity or integrity” of a person “because of their sex” by a suspension “current over at least ten matches, or any other appropriate disciplinary measure.” As such, the international sports organization had already suspended Luis Rubiales for a period of 90 days.

Luis Rubiales caused international indignation for having forcibly kissed the player Jennifer Hermoso after the world coronation of “Roja” on August 20 in Sydney. Refusing to resign for “a little consensual kiss”, he had attacked, during a stunning speech in bad faith delivered on August 25, a supposed “false feminism” and argued that he had obtained the player’s authorization before kiss her. A version denied by Jenni Hermoso who said she “felt vulnerable and victim […] of an impulsive and sexist act, inappropriate and without any consent of [sa] part».

This scandal also led the Spanish Federation (RFEF) to dismiss several of its executives, including the coach of the women’s national team Jorge Vilda, close to Luis Rubiales, replaced by Montse Tomé. It was only after three weeks of controversy that the boss of Spanish football announced his resignation. “About my resignation, yes, I will do it, yes, because I cannot continue my work,” he said in an interview with British television journalist Piers Morgan.

The 46-year-old former footballer still has the possibility of “appealing to the FIFA Appeals Committee” reminds the international federation. He has ten days to request the reasons for the decision of the disciplinary commission, which will then be published.
