One more time REA Dance has shown that, if there is a great display of dance accompanied by a monumental sound environment and lighting design, its performers enjoy dancing like never before and the audience ends up totally devoted to what is being exhibited on stage. So, it is clear that we must stay with what it meant for one to go through such an experience, in order to make a balanced evaluation.
The structure of this work could not be simpler, that is: a succession of scenes and choreographies coming from the interpretation of these professionals, of how tango has evolved in the capital of Buenos Aires from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day, and not least important, how the emblematic La Revirada Tango Club (establishment that has been the starting point of this piece) has been a witness and protagonist in this process. Thus, we, the spectators, were immersed in an atmosphere in which fantasy and the inescapable havoc (collectively and individually) that make one survive in a country subjected to so many ups and downs, took place that we ” Let’s visit” a lot of worlds without leaving the Cervantes Theater.
Even with everything, the members of this company based in Andalusia, had everything in place so that this work not be understood as “documentary”; but rather, as a tribute to a discipline capable of adapting to the moods and degrees of virtuosity of those who dance it. In such a way that the character of each scene and choreography oscillated between the self-absorption of an individual, the festive, the seduction between two people, and even the performative, outlining La Revirada Tango Club as something comparable to a symphony of music and dance. A show that has been directed under the motto of neither oversaturating the spectators, nor allowing their heads to go elsewhere. Perhaps this is the horizon that shows that, far from being full of concessions and overly vulgarized formulas, have set as their objective the representation of something as a mode of celebration, should aim.
In this line, Jupa Arias and Diego Arias (directors and two of the performers of this piece) have managed to make one, as a spectator of several of the pieces in REA Danza, distinguish between those that attend to something purely aesthetic and “festive” (if I may use the term), from those that that delve into themes that tango stands as a very powerful vehicle to stylize without falling into trivialization. Here is that if we put La Revirada Tango Club in dialogue with other works by REA Danza such as Broken Tango, Undertango, Stress Capital, Neighborhood Romace and Unusual situations in which you would never dance tangoone draws in one’s head a kind of “map” that testifies that tango is at the service of those who have joined its culture and philosophy, going beyond that image of something that serves as entertainment to socialize and so on. things like that.
La Revirada Tango Club It is a work that is loved and enjoyed from beginning to end.. Because, deep down, it reminds us that we will always have to dance to know how to move forward. Or put another way: no matter what place or situation one is in, dancing is a way of thinking and channeling what happens to us in every sense.
