The second ordinary session of the year 2023 of the National Assembly starts this Tuesday, October 31. It will be launched with a solemn ceremony chaired by the president of parliament at the Palace of Governors in front of deputies and in the presence of several authorities.

The 109 deputies of the Beninese Assembly return to the hemicycle for the second ordinary session of the year. The opening of this session will have two highlights: the arrival and installation of the president of parliament, Louis Vlavonou, then the latter’s speech to the deputies and other personalities.

Also called budgetary session because it involves the study and adoption of the finance law, the 2nd ordinary session of parliament will last three months in accordance with the provisions of article 87 of the Constitution: “The National Assembly meets as of right in two ordinary sessions per year. The first session opens during the first half of April. The second session opens during the second half of October. Each session cannot exceed three months”.

Over the next three months, MPs will consider the issues on the agenda for the budget session. The study and adoption of the finance bill for fiscal year 2024 is part of this. For next year, the government prepared a general budget amounting to 3,199.274 billion FCFA. The finance bill which carries it has already been transmitted to the National Assembly.

The opening ceremony of the 2nd ordinary session of parliament starts tomorrow at 9 a.m.; it can be followed live on the entire ORTB network, TV, Radio and Web, tomorrow from 8:30 a.m.
