The celebration of Princess Leonor’s 18th birthday transcends the family sphere. As the Constitution states, the heir to the Crown, in this case the heiress, must swear an oath to the Magna Carta upon reaching the age of majority, something that happens this Tuesday, October 31, when the first-born of Felipe VI and Letizia leaves 17 years ago. The events start at 11:00 in the morning in the city of Madrid, which has been decked out for the event – even the Community of Madrid will distribute cakes with the Spanish flag – which will take place mainly in the Congress of Deputies.

The Royal Family, with important absences (although expected) such as that of the emeritus Juan Carlos I, will be received by the acting President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and by the Chief of the Defense Staff, Teodoro Esteban López, to then make way to the greeting to the Armed Forces, before entering the chamber. Congress welcomes Leonor’s swearing-in of the Constitution in the midst of Sánchez’s negotiations to be able to forge an investiture agreement that will keep him in the Moncloa in the new legislature, an investiture that will necessarily have to be held before November 27; Otherwise, general elections will have to be repeated.

The security team for the swearing-in of the Constitution involves nearly a thousand police officers from different units, with the Police, Army and Civil Guard working together to guarantee the security of an event of this nature that is also held in a scenario in which the terrorist alert level is at level 4, the second highest.
