Evacuation Ordered as Highland Fire Engulfs Riverside County

An evacuation order has been issued as firefighters battle a brush fire that erupted in the Aguanga area of Riverside County, not far from Temecula. The fire, named the Highland Fire, was first reported at 12:37 p.m. between Highland Road and Aguanga Ranchos Road, according to CalFire. It has since spread to 1,219 acres as of 7:51 p.m.

The fire, described as “burning at a moderate rate of speed,” has already destroyed at least one home, although no injuries have been reported. Multiple fire departments, including Corona, Hemet, Murrieta, Palm Springs, and the U.S. Forest Service, have responded to assist in battling the blaze.

To ensure the safety of residents, evacuation orders have been put in place for several areas. Those living South of Sage/Golden Eagle Drive, East of Becker Lane, West of Boulder Vista, North of Cottonwood Creek, South of Highway 371, West of Soreson, and North of County Line Road have been ordered to leave their homes immediately.

Additionally, an evacuation warning has been issued for the following areas: East of Vail Lake Resort, West of Shirley Way, North of David Street, South of Pueblo Road/Exa Ely Road, West of Cahuilla Tribal Reservation Boundary, and North of County Line Road.

For those impacted by the evacuation orders and warnings, shelter is available at Great Oak High School in Temecula. Residents can find refuge at 32555 Deer Hollow Way. Furthermore, large animals can be taken to the San Jacinto Animal Shelter located at 581 S. Grand Ave.

The Highland Fire comes at a time when several counties in Southern California are under a red flag warning due to breezy Santa Ana winds. The National Weather Service has cautioned the region about critical fire danger conditions as gusty winds continue to sweep through the area. Residents are urged to stay updated on the situation and follow any further instructions from authorities to ensure their safety.
