The deputy for Culture, Cooperation, Youth and Sports of Gipuzkoa, Goizane Álvarez, yesterday expressed her satisfaction with the functioning of the alternative services launched by the Koldo Mitxelena Kulturunea (KMK) after the closure of the cultural center due to renovation works. Thus, she highlighted that the alternative spaces “are working well” and the level of loans and assistance to activities “are good.”

The regional deputy acknowledged in a statement that, “logically, these are not all the services that were provided in the KMK, nor, unfortunately, all those that the Department of Culture would have wanted to offer.” She pointed out that “it is early to draw conclusions”, but she is convinced that, in the end, the alternative spaces “will work well” and, in addition, she has advanced that it will allow the Provincial Council to “test other formats and other models.” For example, a self-loan system has been launched, “a new option to facilitate the autonomy of users.”

He also spoke in relation to the loan service located on Reyes Católicos Street, where more than 60,000 documents are available for loan. In the more than 75 days that the service has been open, 10,468 loans have been made, an average of 150 loans per day and, therefore, the loan level “is consolidating.”

He explained that the activities room has been enabled in the convent of Santa Teresa, which, although it has “less capacity than the KMK” and presents “some limitations” in terms of accessibility and configuration, it is a space that “everyone likes.” approaching”.

Ordinary activity in the KMK, which is organized in the aforementioned convent of Santa Teresa, has resumed on a “regular” basis in this month of October. With data as of the 20th, six activities have been organized, attended by 321 people and 88 more through the streaming service. Therefore, in his opinion, the figures “are good” and he considers that “there is no decrease in activities or attendance.”
