Three departments – Finistère, Côtes-d’Armor and Morbihan – are placed on orange alert for violent winds from 9 p.m. Wednesday, due to the arrival of storm Ciaran, warned Météo-FranceTuesday October 31.

The meteorological institute mentions gusts of wind which will be “extremely violent” even though he “remains uncertainties about [leur] intensity » : « On attend [des vents de] 150 to 170 kilometers per hour [km/h] potentially on the coast of Finistère and Côtes-d’Armor during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. »

Météo-France describes Ciaran as “very strong autumn storm, probably of remarkable strength for certain departments in the north-west”. The institute plans “a first period of violent gusts of wind, in the evening and early night”, with winds “100 to 120 km/h in general”. Then, from Wednesday to Thursday morning, “These gusts will spread to other departments in the north-west of the country which will therefore go into orange vigilance”.

Météo-France has also placed a large part of the Atlantic coastline on yellow wind vigilance, certain departments on yellow rain-flood vigilance, as well as Finistère, Morbihan and Loire-Atlantique on yellow wave-submersion vigilance.

The Finistère prefecture asked, as of Monday evening, the population to“anticipate or delay your travel to avoid the storm period”to put away objects that could “constitute a danger due to strong gusts of wind” and to demonstrate “extreme caution when approaching the coast”. Civil protection volunteer first responders will be on pre-alert from Wednesday, Ille-et-Vilaine civil protection said.
