The Angolan government is developing an action plan to help 147 thousand people living in risk areas across the country, said this Monday the spokesperson for the National Civil Protection Commission, Manuel Lutango.

The plan was analyzed in a meeting led by the Minister of State and Head of the Military House of the Presidency of the Republic, Francisco Furtado.

He mentioned that there is a degree of exposure of people in risk areas, which must be taken into account so that actions can provide the necessary response to possible threats of rain and floods.

Preventive actions, for the next five years, will be aligned with established international policies and tools, such as the Senday framework on disaster management measures, aligned with the National Development Plan and the instruments of the African continent.

He made it known that the strategy takes into account the need of the ministerial sectors that make up the commission, to identify actions and needs so that a budget can be created to respond to possible calamities.

He clarified that the next step is to collect contributions from the provincial civil protection commissions, aligning them with other sectors that have not yet submitted their actions and budgets for the 2023 emergency action system.

During the meeting, an overview of the previous rainy season was presented, which will serve as a basis for defining prevention measures. MGM/ART
