Maximum vigilance. While storm Ciarán will hit France from Wednesday, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin called on the French “not to go out during the night from Wednesday to Thursday”. Six departments will be particularly affected by the storm: Finistère, Morbihan, Côtes-d’Armor, Manche, Loire-Atlantique and Ille-et-Vilaine.

“From Wednesday afternoon, and then more strongly during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, there will be an extremely strong storm which will affect Brittany, but also the Atlantic coast and the English Channel. It will mobilize a lot of prefects and firefighters,” he said.

3,200 firefighters mobilized

“3,200 firefighters will be mobilized, as well as four helicopters and a military unit will be in Rennes to be ready to intervene. We are going to have winds that are going to be at least as fast, if not faster, than during the storm of 1999. Marine submersion is possible, particularly in Brittany,” the Minister of the Interior also specified. .

Beyond the six departments will be particularly affected by the storm, Gérald Darmanin “encourages the French not to go out during the night from Wednesday to Thursday” throughout the territory. “And if they have to go out, I encourage them not to do so near rivers and the sea,” he concluded.

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected in the northwestern part of the country from Wednesday. No TER will run on Thursday in Normandy, Centre-Val de Loire, Pays de la Loire, Brittany and Hauts-de-France.
