China will not sell tickets for the Olympics

The Beijing 2022 Olympic Organizing Committee announced on Monday, January 17, that tickets for the Games will not go on sale. The organizers of the Games were forced to take this step by the deteriorating situation with the spread of COVID-19, including in China itself.

On September 30, 2021, the organizers announced that no foreign spectators will be admitted to the upcoming Games, and tickets will only be available to residents of mainland China. However, “given the current serious and difficult situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, for the sake of ensuring the safety of all participants and spectators, it was decided that tickets should no longer be sold, but should be part of an adapted program,” the organizing committee said in a statement. Tickets are expected to be distributed to certain groups of citizens who “will strictly adhere to the COVID-19 countermeasures before, during and after each event.”

It was previously reported that a closed area will be created for the duration of the Olympic Games, which will cover all objects related to the Games, including transport, accommodation, catering, venues for competitions, as well as opening and closing ceremonies. A special transport system will be created for the Olympics. All participants in the Games and employees of the restricted area will be tested for coronavirus every day. At the same time, they will not be able to leave the zone.

The Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing from February 4 to 20, and the Paralympics from March 4 to 13.
