Speed ​​canoeing began its activity in the Pan American Games this Wednesday in the Laguna Grande San Pedro de la Paz, the same one that until last week hosted the rowing competitions, and on the first day there was a Uruguayan presence.

Matías Otero and Julián Cabrera participated in the K2 500 meters modality and, after failing to qualify for the final in the first eliminatory series, they did so by taking the last place in the repechage semi-final.

The Uruguayans began fourth among five kayaks in their first heat with a time of 1:48.79, far from the representatives of Argentina (1:31.59) and the United States (1:33.66), who advanced to the final directly. Cuba (1:38.84) came in third place and Puerto Rico (1:51.49) was last.

In the semifinal, the Uruguayans were again fourth out of five, but still qualified. With a time of 1:44.29 they were ahead of Puerto Rico and behind Cuba, Mexico and Brazil, who will go to the final on Friday at 9:20 against Argentina, the United States, Canada and Chile.

The Uruguayan participation will continue on Thursday at 9 a.m. with Matías Otero in the 1,000-meter K1 and will close on Saturday with Matías Otero, Julián Cabrera, Sebastián Delgado and Luis Melo in the final of K4, a 500-meter race in which Uruguay will compete with Chile, the United States, Mexico, Argentina, Cuba and Canada.
