Klay Thompson’s Shot Lifts Warriors to Victory in Nail-Biter Against Kings
SAN FRANCISCO – Klay Thompson proved once again why he is a five-time NBA All-Star with four pivotal moments in the final seconds of Wednesday night’s game. Each play was crucial for the Golden State Warriors, but it was Thompson’s final shot that sealed the victory.
With the Warriors trailing the Sacramento Kings by one point with less than 10 seconds left, Thompson received a pass from Draymond Green, dribbled to the left corner of the foul line, pulled up, launched the shot, and swished it through the net. The crowd at Chase Center erupted with joy as the Warriors secured a thrilling 102-101 win.
Teammate Stephen Curry praised Thompson for his game-winning shot, calling it a “big, big, big shot for us.” Thompson himself couldn’t contain his excitement, stating that hitting a game-winner made him feel “on Cloud 9.”
Thompson’s shot came after a series of impressive plays he made late in a game that lacked rhythm and aesthetic appeal. He assisted Green on a crucial layup, made a layup himself, and then came up big on the defensive end with a strip-block that led to a shot-clock violation. These plays set the stage for Thompson’s game-winning shot.
This was not the first time Thompson has hit a game-winning shot. He previously did it against the Indiana Pacers in 2014 and against the Kings in 2018. Coach Steve Kerr praised Thompson’s ability to come through in clutch moments, saying that hitting a shot with 0.2 seconds left when the team is down is a thrill for anyone, regardless of how many times they’ve done it before.
Thompson’s performance in the final minutes of the game washed away some of the frustration he had built up over the first three quarters. He had a rough shooting night, but he made up for it on the defensive end and ultimately hit the shot that secured the win.
Throughout the game, it was evident that Thompson was trying to find his rhythm and regain his All-Star form. The uncertainty around his contract status as an unrestricted free agent next summer may have added to the pressure.
