Olive trees and palm trees, surrounded by a little lavender and thyme… the scents of the South are obvious to the Cabanoniers de Chartres. Here, the clicking of balls intermingles with the clinking of glasses. In the first pétanque bar in Eure-et-Loir, it shoots, it points like on any terrain, but there is little chance of seeing a diamond, the objective is relaxation.

“What we like is leisure, friendly pétanque, the grandpa playing with his grandchildren or the boss with his employees. The principle is to have fun, the grounds do not necessarily respect the regulatory standards of pétanque, even if we get close,” explains Antonin Gilletta, the initiator of the project.

With his wife, Coralie, he is at the head of this new bar. A place with the colors of the South. A giant fresco invites customers to escape, head to the square of a small village in the Var or Bouches-du-Rhône. “We tried to bring together on a wall everything that makes us think of the South. We want to give people the feeling of being on vacation in Provence for two hours,” announces Coralie.

Around twenty different pastis

Even the name of the seven pétanque courts, three indoors and four outdoors, invites you to travel. La Ciotat, Néoules, Marseille, Borme-les-Mimosas, Saint-Tropez, Fréjus, Saint-Raphaël, are available for rental. As in bowling, customers reserve their “lane” for thirty minutes of play. Tapenade, aioli, olives garnish the aperitif boards. In the glasses, Provençal wines, a craft beer from the Var but above all… pastaga! “There will be several pastis,” smiles the couple. The menu will include around twenty different pastis. »

The couple, who met in the South, even extend their homage to this region to the choice of pétanque balls. On the thin layer of gravel, the boules of the oldest manufacturer in the world, those of the Marseille company “La boule Bleue”. “We could have chosen other partners, but to respect our concept we wanted the historic manufacturer,” insists the manager.

Antonin and Coralie invested 160,000 euros in this project. Four people were hired. Their bar is located outside Chartres near the future Parc des Expositions and at the gates of the Jardin d’entreprises, with its 8,500 employees, the couple’s core target. “Mainly we will target companies, employees and managers who, after their working day, want to release the pressure and share a nice moment with colleagues,” recognizes Coralie. At Cabanoniers, the only thing missing is the cicadas.

Cabanoniers, 12, Allée Prométée in Chartres. Bar open Wednesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to midnight. Pitch at €9 per half hour of play.
