O Bahraina small country in Persian Gulfrecalled his ambassador in Israel and suspended economic relations with the country. This measure was taken in support of the Palestinian cause and as a way of expressing Bahrain’s historical position regarding the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. “The continuation of the war, military operations and the continued Israeli escalation in light of the lack of respect for international humanitarian law lead the Council to demand further decisions and measures that preserve the lives of innocent people and civilians in Gaza and in all Palestinian areas,” the statement said. The text issued by Bahrain’s Council of Deputies highlighted that Israel’s ambassador had already left the country and that Bahrain had decided to bring back its own ambassador to Israel. Furthermore, economic relations with Israel were suspended. It is important to highlight that Bahrain, like the United Arab Emirates, had normalized its relations with Israel through the Abraham Accords, promoted by the United States in 2020. These agreements also involved Sudan and Morocco, resulting in important commercial partnerships between these countries and Israel.

However, given the continuation of war and military operations in the Gaza Strip, as well as the Israeli escalation without respect for international humanitarian law, the Bahrain Council of Deputies demands the adoption of further decisions and measures to protect the lives of innocent people and civilians in Gaza and all Palestinian areas. Finally, the statement highlights Bahrain’s firm and unwavering position in support of the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international resolutions. So far, the Bahraini government has not commented on the statement by the Council of Deputies, which has limited capabilities, as is common in Gulf monarchies.
