While the examination of the immigration bill begins Monday, November 6 in the Senate, the defenders of article 3 of the law, which plans to regularize undocumented workers in so-called shortage professions, intend to put pressure on the government.

According to our information, a transpartisan group of parliamentarians ranging from the Communist Party to the MoDem, via EELV, the Socialist Party and the left wing of Renaissance – but which does not include LFI – will present common amendments and its strategy on Monday morning. to defend this measure to which LR deputies and senators are fiercely opposed. An initiative which comes two months after a column by around thirty of these parliamentarians published by Release and Franceinfo in which they already demanded “urgent, humanist and concrete measures for the regularization of undocumented workers”.

“The right is in a very strong offensive using the worst arguments against Article 3. Faced with this, it is important to stand together to prevent the little progress made in this Immigration bill from being sacrificed in the end. debate in the Senate”, confides the communist senator from Paris, Ian Brossat, who will participate in the press conference alongside PS senator Marie-Pierre de la Gontrie, EELV deputy Julien Bayou or, according to several elected officials, the Renaissance MP Stella Dupont. On the other hand, the president of the Law Commission Sacha Houlié will not be present.

An amendment asks not to touch State Medical Aid

Objective of this press conference organized in front of the National Assembly, at the Le Bourbon brasserie, the same place where the small group had worked on its platform: “Reiterate our attachment to the regularization of undocumented workers which is a modest step forward in a bill that is also very restrictive,” summarizes the communist senator.

Among the amendments that could be presented is the question of the employer’s authorization to grant the right to regularization. “As part of the Valls circular, which prevails today, the employer must give authorization and sign a Cerfa form so that the worker can request regularization,” emphasizes Ian Brossat. In what we are defending, we should ensure that undocumented workers no longer have to beg for authorization from their employer. The idea is to get out of this bond of subordination. » This is precisely one of the measures included in the government’s initial bill.

Another amendment also asks not to sacrifice State Medical Aid (or AME) which, in the initial text, must be transformed into emergency medical aid. This “would create conditions for renunciation of care” denounces the transpartisan group.
