‘Cinema Dossier’ starts on Rai3, starting with the film ‘The invented truth’ on the false scoops of ‘Der Spiegel’

The new ‘Cinema Dossier’ format starts on Monday 6 November on Rai3 which sees the screening of a film, the plot of which focuses on current affairs, preceded by an in-depth journalistic analysis. The first appointment is with ‘The Invented Truth’, a 2022 film by the German director Michael Bully Herbig which tells the case of the journalist Claas Relotius of the German magazine ‘Der Spiegel’ who, at the height of his brilliant career, is unmasked by his colleague freelancer Juan Romero. His scoops and investigations, in fact, were based on fake news and manipulations of reality. The screening of the film will be preceded by an in-depth discussion by Federica Sciarelli on the topic of ‘fake news’ with Davide Desario (Italian journalist and writer, Director of the time.news news agency) and Piero Iezzi (CEO and cofounder of Swascan, Cyber ​​Security expert ).

A very topical issue which concerns the manipulation of information which over time, thanks also to the use of social media and new technologies, has become increasingly sophisticated so much so as to seriously put the fundamental right to correct information at risk. Sciarelli, who has also dedicated a book to technological scams online, will discuss important topics with his guests such as verifying sources, the ability to distinguish truth from falsehood, the confusion that is sometimes generated by misinformation in a subject as delicate as medical disclosure.

“It’s an idea born with Paolo Corsini, director of Rai Insights – explains Adriano De Maio, director of Rai Cinema and TV Series to time.news – a synergy between genres. It won’t be a fixed appointment, but it will be decided to from time to time when to include it in the schedule also based on the particular films we have in the archive and to which we try to give a precise accent. They are films produced by Rai Cinema or also purchased in the various Festivals in which we participate and are part of the large Rai archive”. No preview of subsequent appointments: “For now we’ll start with this – says De Maio – then we’ll see. There was the Caivano emergency and at the beginning we thought of starting with ‘Fortuna’, a very tough film set in those places. These are things that need to be cooked and eaten, I understand, but there isn’t always space in the schedules to do them.”
