The time is over when criminals had a minimum of respect for places of worship, considered sacred by many and, therefore, immune to crime. An example of this is the third invasion suffered by a church in less than two months in the city of Cariacica, in Espírito Santo.
The Abundant Life Pentecostal Cathedral was found, last Saturday morning, with practically none of its belongings, because according to the local pastor, this time the criminals took everything of value that was in the temple.
“It’s very difficult because we do God’s work, things belong to the church, to the House of God. I have no words to express the pain, my feeling. We pray in search of people’s salvation,” said Gutemberg de Souza, the church’s religious leader.
In the last two months, criminals took advantage of a defect in the temple’s roof to invade the place. Since for most churches the acquisition of goods is the result of the effort of the faithful, any theft becomes significant.
This time, for example, the damage was estimated at R$20,000, even after reinforcing the temple’s structure. “The first time they entered through the roof, which fell. They broke the bathroom roof and took the guitar. Then we put security in place, we redid the roof,” said the pastor.
They did the “cleaning”
Now, comfortable with local impunity, the criminals felt so confident that they took as much as possible, leaving through the front of the church, after breaking the entrance lock.
“They took keyboards, drum cymbals, double bass, microphones, two speakers… They practically ‘cleaned’ the altar and took everything from the church”, lamented Pastor Gutemberg, second information from the newspaper Folha de Vitória.
To try to prevent further invasions, the pastor said that the church will invest in security cameras, in addition to repairing the fault in the temple’s roof.
