The changes of opinion are spreading among the members of the Government, assuming the style that Pedro Sánchez himself has assumed. The last to do so was the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, now the right-hand woman of the President of the Government. After the approval of the investiture pact between ERC and the PSOE, which implies that the State will assume 15,000 million euros of debt that Catalonia has with the FLA, in addition to saving 1,300 million in interest that would have to be paid on that credit if it were not condoned – in total 16,300 million – his statements from just a few days ago are evident when in an interview on the Ser network he flatly denied that a condonation was going to occur.

The minister accused the Popular Party of “inventing false news” about the supposed debt forgiveness for Catalonia, after responding with a resounding “No”, when asked about it, to continue: “They invent it. The curious thing is is that the PP communities invent the issues and, suddenly, they begin to speculate and say these things.” As Sánchez himself has done until the last moment with the word amnesty – which did not come out of his mouth for weeks -, Montero did not want to name the word condonation, but it is implicit. “That has not happened and since it has not happened it cannot be tolerated.”

This statement has three aspects: either the minister was lying about the possibility of this measure being approved within the agreement, or she was not informed of it until it was done, or everything was rushed at the last moment due to the refusal of the independentists to sign the agreement.
